A systematic review and meta-analysis published in Medicine (Baltimore) evaluated the efficacy of acupuncture in treating generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The study analyzed 27 randomized controlled trials encompassing 1,782 participants. Findings indicated that acupuncture significantly reduced anxiety symptoms, as measured by the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) and the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), compared to control groups receiving standard treatments like medications or psychotherapy. Additionally. acupuncture was associated with a higher total effective rate and fewer adverse events, suggesting it may be a safer alternative. However, the authors emphasized the need for larger, high-quality trials to confirm these results.
